The G. L. & Elsie H. Downing Scholarship is available to students whose principal residence is in Mason County, Kentucky, or whose parents reside in Mason County.Selection is based on financial need, academics, and extra-curricular activities. Every effort is made to finalize the selection of recipients by the end of May, but delays are often unavoidable due to the nature of the selection process. The amount of each award will depend on the recipient’s qualifying expenses, and the amount of grants and scholarships received from other sources. Qualifying expenses include tuition, room and board, books, and certain class-related fees.
-Applicants must be under the age of 25 at the time of initial application, and must not have already completed or attended four years of college. Scholarships are not awarded for post-graduate study. – Members of the families of the directors or staff of the Foundation, and of the original donor, are ineligible. – Applicants must have graduated from an accredited high school, or have completed at least one year of study at an accredited college or university in the United States. -Applicants must be attending, or planning to attend, and accredited U. S. college or university. High school students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better. College students must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.50 or better.
