This announcement concerns a PhD position in Information Systems in the project “What is the significance of economic incentives for the choice of university education?” funded by the Swedish Research Council and run in collaboration with the Institute for Labour Market Policy Evaluation (IFAU). The successful candidate will work on the parts of the project that deals with online data collection, including design and development of social media applications for this purpose. Research in Information Systems at Uppsala University is concerned with use and development of IT-based systems with a special focus on the relationships between developers, users, organizations and society. The aim is to increase understanding of how IT can create value for different stakeholders. The research is both theoretical and practical. Different research methods are employed, such as traditional qualitative and quantitative social research methods (including, e.g., interviews and surveys) as well as construction and evaluation of IT systems.

We seek a candidate with a genuine interest in and good understanding of software and information systems development. Experience from social media and related software development environments, for example, experience from development of Facebook apps, is desired. Knowledge of and interest in quantitative research methods are also an advantage. A master’s degree in information systems, software engineering, or equivalent is required.
