Carey Mining Ltd in cooperation with Curtin University in Australia set up a one-year scholarship program at the Curtin University for current and future undergraduates. Carey Mining Ltd hopes to provide young Australians an opportunity to study in Australia through this program. This program aims to enhance the understanding in the field of engineering, commerce, science and surveying. The scholarship is especially for Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Students. .  Carey Mining Ltd seeks to reward and develop the skills of Indigenous students interested in the mining industry or related specialist fields. The Daniel Tucker Scholarship was developed by Carey Mining Ltd, a mining and civil contracting company committed to providing meaningful, long-term training and employment for people from an indigenous background..  This scholarship is available for pursuing undergraduate degree level.
The research areas of this scholarship are: Subjects are Engineering, Commerce, Science and Surveying.
Who can apply to this scholarship? Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria to be considered for the Daniel Tucker Scholarship:
· Be identified as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and accepted as such by the community in which they live, or have lived
· Be enrolled full
· time (75 credit points minimum), in an eligible degree in Semester 1, 2013
· Maintain a Course Weighted Average (CWA) of at least 55
· Be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported place at the University
· Would benefit financially from the Daniel Tucker Scholarship
· The award of this scholarship may preclude the recipient from holding similar scholarships. Applications from students in receipt of one or more scholarships/awards will be assessed on a case
· by
· case basis. Carey Mining reserves the right to amend the award if the recipient holds another scholarship/award. Carey Mining also reserves the right to deem applicants ineligible for this scholarship if in receipt of another
Benefits of the scholarship: The scholarship will provide a cash payment of $5,000 for one year to be paid in two equal installments of $2,500 post census date each semester. The amount can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards education-related expenses such as course fees and text-books. In addition, the recipient will take part in an Indigenous Cadetship (arranged by Carey Mining) which will provide 12 weeks of paid employment, professional guidance and mentorship. The cadetship will also offer a $12,000 study allowance paid in fortnightly installments for the period of full-time study. Although the scholarship is for one year only, the recipient may re-apply for the scholarship every year.
