Swiss National Science Foundation is offering PhD student position. The position is offered for the period of three and a half years which is available in agricultural landscapes and biodiversity. The project will start in March 2013. Applicants applying for the position should hold a master level degree in biology, ecology, environmental sciences, agronomy or a similar field. The salary is according to the guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation.. The Research Station Agroscope Reckenholz-Tänikon ART conducts research for an environmental friendly, competitive agriculture. We combine ecology, economy and agricultural technology in an integrated research approach and develop scientific-based decision support for farmers, government authorities and society. A Ph.D. student position is available in the research group “Agricultural Landscapes and Biodiversity”. Research will be carried out within the EU-FP7 Project “Quantification of ecological services for sustainable agriculture” (QUESSA), which aims at identifying key traits of semi-natural habitat elements as predictors of ecosystem services in agroecosystems. Ecosystem services, such as natural pest control or pollination by animals, are essential for sustainable agriculture. You will investigate the role of semi-natural habitat elements for the provisioning of pest control and/or pollination services in one or two major arable crops in Switzerland. Tasks will include planning and conducting on-farm experiments, data acquisition, analysis and interpretation, and publication of results in international, peer-reviewed journals.. This scholarship is available for pursuing PhD degree.

Who can apply to this scholarship? We are seeking a highly motivated, team
· oriented candidate with a strong interest in agro
· ecological issues. Applicants should hold a master level degree in biology, ecology, environmental sciences, agronomy or a similar field. Experience with field experiments, with the software package R for statistical analysis and/or geographic information systems (GIS) as well as entomological knowledge would be beneficial. Good knowledge of spoken and written English and German as well as a driving license are required.
