The Lions Club Maastricht Trajectum is a mixed service club in Maastricht with approximately 25 members. It is one of 400 nationwide clubs belonging to the Lions Clubs International Netherlands. The Lions Club consists of a tight-knit community of members from different professional backgrounds who support various charities under the motto “We Serve”. By providing one student from a developing country with a master’s scholarship to the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance, the Lions Club Maastricht Trajectum is able to fulfil two important Lions goals: establishing and preserving mutual understanding among different populations and promoting principles of good governance. In addition to valuable personal experience, the programme also contributes to the positive development of civil society and civil service in the country of origin. A few examples include: designing social security systems, preventing brain drain and promoting child welfare. In short, a significant contribution to sustainable development. In offering this scholarship, the Lions Club Maastricht Trajectum strives to become a positive impetus within its own region by promoting the image of a friendly, welcoming and internationally-oriented city and university.

The Lions Club Maastricht Trajectum provides a scholarship for talented master’s students. Applicants must be enrolled in the Master of Science in Public Policy and Human Development programme at the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance. The ideal candidate has a passion for public issues and is committed to using the acquired knowledge to support the development of his or her homeland. Furthermore, the candidate must be open to the mutual exchange of knowledge and experience and enthusiastic about the opportunities offered by a social and professional network like the Lions Club. Applicants must meet all the requirements outlined in the application procedure. The scholarship is intended to contribute to living expenses for a maximum period of 12 months.
