The department is pleased to announce a position as a PhD student starting September 15, 2012 or as agreed. The candidate will be working in a new research team comprising both young and senior researchers, based in Umeå. The theme of the research is coalition research and political economy (in its broadest sense) in Europe. The project aims to explore government formation, government stability, capacity to act, responsiveness to the electorate and role in forming opinions, as well as exploring which effects voter opinions, the composition of parliament and government will have on the economic policy pursued. The PhD project will be carried out in one or more of the abovementioned research themes. Teaching may also be included.
To be admitted to the PhD programme in Political Science, students must have a degree awarded at the advanced level (Masters), with a major in Political Science or Peace and Conflict Studies (or equivalent). This means course requirements of at least 240 ECTS out of which 60 ECTS must be obtained at the advanced level, and at least 90 ECTS in Political Science or Peace and Conflict Studies (or equivalent). Applicants with an equivalent degree from a non-Swedish university may also be eligibility for admission.
