The Cardiff School of Social Sciences, supported by the ESRC Doctoral Training Centre for Wales (Wales DTC) invites applications to a number of fully-funded PhD studentships for the 2014/15 academic year. Total 11 studentships are available in the areas of Criminology, Education, Science and Technology Studies, Social Policy, Social Work and Social Care and Sociology. Studentship covers tuition fees as well as a maintenance grant; the award includes an additional Research Training Support Grant (RTSG) of £750 for three years for full-time students. The application deadline is 28th February 2014.. Who can apply to this scholarship? ESRC studentships are highly competitive, candidates should have an excellent academic background in the social sciences, holding a 1st or strong upper 2nd class degree; applications from those also holding a Masters degree (preferably an ESRC recognised Masters or an equivalent background in research training) will be considered for a +3 award.

Benefits of the scholarship:  This studentship is generously funded by the Economic and Social Research Council. It covers full UK/EU tuition fees and includes a Doctoral Stipend matching the UK Research Council National Minimum (£13,726 p.a. for 2013/14, updated each year). There is also a research training and support grant of £750 p.a. to support research activities such as conference attendance, fieldwork or a travel allowance.
