This Scholarship, a bequest by the late Walter Kirby, of Melbourne, is open for competition annually and is tenable at the School of Music. Open to students who intend to pursue the study of Music at a higher level than Stage I for the degree of Bachelor of Music, not specialising in performance, or for the degree of Bachelor of Arts.

The Scholarship shall be open to students between the ages of seventeen and twenty-three, both inclusive, at the closing date for entry for the Scholarship, who satisfy the prerequisites required to take papers in Music at Stage II level and intend to pursue the study of Music at a higher level than Stage I for the degree of Bachelor of Music, not specialising in performance, or for the degree of Bachelor of Arts.
